Thanks for your review, Riley! We're sorry to hear about the marks on your Shell Bag. Occasionally, the wax in the canvas can shift during transit. If that happens, we recommend using a hair dryer on high, or a heat gun, and gently wave it 4–6 in above the surface of the canvas. This will re-melt the wax and the lighter areas will disappear before your eyes!

Almost Perfect

I've used my Hunting Shell Bag a few times for sporting clays. It's construction and materials are top notch. However I'd love to see a few modifications. A small handle on one end would make it easier to retrieve the bag from a cubby on a gun cart. Another modification would be to place a couple of elastic storage loops inside the bag for storing chokes. If it were just a couple of inches longer a 4th box of shells could be added or, in my case, I could store my electronic ear muffs and shooting glasses. Finally, the brass zipper is really, really stiff! I used TiZip to lubricate it and it's still a challenge to open and close, especially around the corners. Any thoughts on loosening the zipper would be much appreciated.

Re: the high quality YKK solid brass zipper, yes, it can be a bit stiff initially! We recommend a product like Zipper-Ease, a stainless lubricant in easy-to-use stick form which works very well for smooth trouble-free operation of all zippers - metal or plastic. It is a special blend of waxes and lubricants that resists exposure to water and heat.

You may also rub a carpenter's pencil back and forth over the zipper. This will apply a thin coat of graphite to the brass and help it work more smoothly. You can also use graphite from a tube, but be careful they don't overdo it and get excess graphite on the zipper tape or leather.

Hunting shell bag.

Extremely well made. Perfect size. Handle could be a bit longer to accommodate larger hands. The zipper is too sturdy. You have to hold the bag steady with one hand while unzipping the bag a few inches at time. Still, I recommend the bag if it fits your needs.

Hey Evan, thanks for your input re: making our Hunting Shell Bag handle a bit longer. We've passed that along to our product development team! We know that solid brass zippers can initially be a little stiff, for sure. You might try spraying some WD-40 or silicon spray on a clean cloth, rub it throughly onto the full length of the zipper and run the zipper head back and forth a bit to make it smoother. That should help!
