I bought this bag to replace an old cordura field bag I have used for years. Although this bag is constructed like a tank, I was a little disappointed with whatever material they use in between the canvas and nylon on the lid or top. It seems like some type of fiber and this material creases/deforms easily. Just seems cheap given the range of materials we have today and the price I paid for the bag. I would think a thin foam padding would have been a better choice.
I ordered this briefcase and a Maine Guide Bag (unwaxed), both in chestnut/slate. Communications with Lori was outstanding. She went out of her way to help me in my decisions, and since the guide bag was unwaxed, she included a tin of wax treatment so I could apply if I wanted. The bags arrived on the promised day, within a week of ordering, and were well packed (little leather thongs tied in a square knot to secure the heavy plastic bags, each pocket stuffed with paper so no folding and creasing). Quality of construction and materials seems first rate. Heavy duty metal zippers, well tanned and sewn leather and canvas, and nicely finished nylon lining, all seams finished. Not overloaded with gimmicks or fluff, just practical, functional features. The bags have sturdy bottoms and will stand on their own. Nice leather shoulder straps with non-slip sueding on the inside. Sorry this color combo is no longer offered; looks great (and doesn't look like those other canvas/leather bags). Highly recommended, and I'll be back, for sure.
