Intentionality is the emphasis for our goods, many directly inspired by original, early 20th century pieces we source ourselves. From our painstakingly hand-selected, 100% full-grain vegetable and chrome tanned US steerhides that bear our name and handcrafted in our own shops, to the rich, yet simplistic, lines visible in each heritage-inspired leather good, no effort is spared as each design is infused with modern day functionality to create these timeless head-turners.
Our family has over 150 years of merchant / mercantile history on both sides of our family tree. My personal mercantile story begins in 1903 with the Claxton Carriage and Hardware Company, located in small town Claxton, Georgia and the oldest continually operating business in Evans County. After completing his US military service, my father George W. “Bill” Bowen began working in that store in 1950, bought it and ultimately ran the business for almost 50 years. I quite literally grew up in our hardware store ....
We handcraft all our goods in our own North American leather shops, so we've come to know a thing or two. We feel there's often something vital and authentic lost from the present world of leather goods, and retail in general.
But above all else, we - and the mercantile stores that came before us - exist to deliver genuine value for those who depended on it most — and can't survive serving anything less.
